Therapeutic Recreation Internship

The Therapeutic Recreation Internship at Gio’s Garden is designed for students pursuing a career in Recreational Therapy. Interns work alongside a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to use play- and activity-based interventions to support young children with a wide range of disabilities, ages birth to seven.

Interns are active members of the Gio’s Garden team and participate in programming, daily routines, and individualized support for children from birth to seven years old.

Internship Overview

  • Minimum 15-week commitment

  • Schedule varies and may include evenings and weekends

  • Flexible scheduling to meet 40 hours per week

  • This is an active, hands-on, and often messy internship — be ready to run, play, and get creative

Supervision & Support

  • Supervised by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)

  • Weekly supervision meetings (or more as needed)

  • Ongoing mentorship and professional guidance

Additional Details

  • This is an unpaid internship

  • Housing is the responsibility of the intern; assistance locating housing is available upon request

  • Interns are responsible for meeting academic and program expectations
